Laser hair removal uses targeted pulses of laser energy to permanently disable hair follicles in the designated treatment area. Once the hair follicles have been disabled they no longer produce hair, which reduces the amount of hair in a treated area. This hair reduction treatment targets hair in the active growth phase, which means multiple treatments are required in order to effectively reduce hair growth since hair follicles do not produce hair at the same rate.

How many treatment sessions will I need?
Multiple treatment sessions are required for each treated area in order to achieve maximum hair reduction in the treated area. Most patients see the best results with a series of six to eight treatment sessions spaced about four to six weeks apart. The number of treatments required to achieve optimal results may vary from patient to patient depending on the thickness of the hair in the treated area, the area being treated, and the size of the designated treatment area. You may require some additional follow-up treatments in order to maintain the results of your treatment.
Are there any potential side effects?
You may experience some mild redness and/or swelling in the treated area following your laser hair removal treatment session. These side effects are temporary and typically resolve on their own within one week of your treatment session. Your skin may also have an increased sensitivity to the sun following your laser hair removal treatment. We recommend you limit your exposure to the sun and use additional sun protection if you plan to spend time outside.
Who is a candidate?
Patients who are interested in long-term reduction of unwanted hair on various areas of the body are potential candidates for our laser hair removal treatments. Laser hair removal is not an effective form of hair reduction for patients with grey, white, red, or blonde hair due to the lack of melanin in the hair follicles. Without the presence of melanin, the laser energy is unable to detect and target the hair follicles, making the treatment ineffective. Prior to your treatment, we will review your goals for treatment and hair color to determine if laser hair removal is an option for you.
