Emsella

Every year, roughly 25 million Americans experience urinary incontinence, with over 70% of these cases being women who experience higher rates of incontinence as a result of pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. Until now, the common treatment for urinary and stress incontinence has been advice to practice Kegal exercises and recommendations for adult sanitary products. But did you know there’s a new option? At Zormeier Cosmetic Surgery & Longevity Center in Noblesville, IN, we are proud to offer Emsella, a revolutionary new treatment.

What Is Emsella?

Emsella is an exciting new treatment with a growing reputation for restoring freedom and relief to sufferers of SUI. As a novel treatment for stress urinary incontinence, this treatment can be used for both women and men who frequently contend with any of the classic symptoms of urinary incontinence, including:

  • Leaking during regular activities
  • Sudden urge to urinate
  • Involuntary loss of urine
  •
  • Inability to reach the toilet
  • Urination during sleep

How Does It Work?

This treatment takes an innovative approach to a difficult problem. Unlike other treatments that focus on dealing with the symptoms or trying to correct urinary incontinence with hormone therapy, this treatment works by using a clever combination of the Emsella Chair and high-intensity electromagnetic stimulation to rapidly contract the muscles in the pelvic floor.

The primary idea behind this treatment is to address the physical cause of bladder leakage. Our pelvic floors contain muscles that control the sphincter of our bladders and urinary tracts, so when stimulated by electromagnetic technology, these muscles have the opportunity to become stronger and help prevent future leaks. This treatment can stimulate the contraction of about 11,000 Kegal muscle exercises in as little as 30 minutes.

What Can You Expect Before, During, and After Treatment?

As a novel treatment, you can expect this treatment to be somewhat unique compared to other elective treatments you may have had in the past. At our clinics, we take the time to treat each patient’s stress incontinence with the care and compassion our patients deserve. From start to finish, some of the treatment steps include:

Consultation

Your initial consultation gives us the opportunity to screen you for compatibility with this treatment. During your consultation, we will discuss your incontinence symptoms, frequency, and any previous treatments you have tried. We will gather certain medical information about you, such as your regular medications, your lifestyle habits, and whether you are pregnant or menopausal.

Treatment

Because this is a non-invasive treatment, you will remain fully clothed during treatment at all times and you will be able to take yourself home after your appointment. The treatment itself is very straight-forward. After your intake assessment, you will be seated on the Emsella chair for about 30 minutes while the electromagnetic stimulation induces the contraction of your pelvic floor muscles. Most patients feel a buzzing or tingling sensation for the duration of the treatment.

What Is Recovery Like?

There is no recovery time associated with this treatment. Immediately after your appointment, you can return to all normal daily activities.

When Can You See Results?

Results for this treatment build gradually over time. Just like any muscle, the muscles in your pelvic floor require consistency and time to build up strength. We typically recommend that patients have the first round of treatment for optimal results, which includes a total of 6 treatments over the course of three weeks. Results during this time will reflect the growing strength of your pelvic floor, which usually means fewer incidents of involuntary leaking or urination.

How Long Do Results Last?

The results for this treatment last a moderate length of time. The majority of patients can expect to enjoy results for a minimum of six months at a time. Patients who are younger or who respond more favorably to the treatment can expect results that last longer, sometimes upwards of eight months.

Will You Need Multiple Treatments?

Aside from your first round of treatment, you will require regular appointments to maintain the desired results. Most patients schedule maintenance appointments once every few months, usually every 12 weeks or so. These follow-up treatments ensure that the strength of your pelvic floor muscles remains strong.

Is This Treatment Safe?

This treatment is non-invasive and does not carry the risk of significant side effects. This treatment can be used by all genders and by people who are over the age of 18.

When Should You Have Treatment?

The question of when to have treatment varies from patient to patient. Some seek treatment because they can no longer cope with continual stress incontinence, while others seek treatment at the first symptoms of urinary issues. For women who are pregnant or who have recently given birth, we do recommend that you wait for this treatment until you have been cleared by your regular medical doctor.

Are You a Good Candidate?

There are many prospective patients who would make good candidates for this treatment. While there are some medical restrictions, such as pregnancy, heart, bleeding, and neurological disorders, the majority of people who are interested in this treatment are qualified. You may be a good candidate if you want to:

  • Regain freedom and peace of mind
  • Stop worrying about SUI
  • Prevent future incontinence
  • Correct involuntary leakage and urination

Stress urinary incontinence doesn’t have to be something you live with. You can find relief, regain your freedom, and prevent future incontinence with Emsella treatments.
