How Quickly Does Juvederm Start Working?

If you’re interested in getting rid of certain aging signs that can make you look older than you feel, Juvederm might be the answer. This is a very popular treatment here in Norcal, and at Zormeier Cosmetic Surgery & Longevity Center in Northern CA, it’s one of the most common treatments we perform. We’d like to help everyone in Northern California learn more, starting with the question how quickly does it start working?

How Quickly Does Juvederm Start Working?

The good news is that this treatment begins working instantly. You will notice the difference immediately as you leave the office, and your results will continue to improve over the next two weeks. At around the two-week mark, you will see your final results. Your initial results will be due to the product itself sitting under your skin and providing a pumping effect. As your body uses the product, it will be replaced with water and collagen for a completely natural rejuvenation of the skin.

Juvederm for Norcal: What It’s All About

This is an FDA-approved dermal filler line that is designed to address signs of aging, like wrinkling, sagging skin, thinning, and hollow areas. There is a filler in this line for nearly every type of aging concern and area of the face. The fillers vary in thickness and viscosity, which is what makes some of them appropriate for very delicate areas, like the lips, and others perfect for thick, tougher spots, like the cheeks.

Every filler is made up of a base of hyaluronic acid. This is a product made by your own body, and, when injected, it boosts skin hydration to create volume and plumpness. This line also contains a small amount of lidocaine in every injection, which ensures perfect comfort throughout the process. The average appointment takes between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on how many areas you’re having treated and the extent of your concerns.

What Is Hyaluronic Acid?

When you hear the word “acid,” it’s normal to initially be concerned. Aren’t acids bad things? Hyaluronic acid is actually a type of sugar that the body creates naturally. Your body has hyaluronic acid throughout the tissues, particularly in the skin and joints. In the joints, this sugar provides cushioning. In the skin, its primary job is to plump the skin while absorbing water for natural hydration. When you have lots of hyaluronic acid, your skin has a healthy glow.

Unfortunately, as we get older, our bodies stop producing hyaluronic acid at the same rate as they did when we were younger. This process begins at around age 25, but most of us will not really notice the difference until we’re in our 30s. By replacing this hyaluronic acid with Juvederm products, you can have a natural plumping and rejuvenating effect.

The hyaluronic acid in these products will act just like the sugar your body produces, naturally, and, because of Juvederm’s patented cross-link technology, the product in these treatments lasts longer than with other fillers, maximizing the longevity of the effects. Over time, the product naturally dissolves into your body, just as regular hyaluronic acid would. Because hyaluronic acid is naturally produced, this is a very safe treatment that is appropriate for nearly everyone.

What Can This Treatment Address?

Because there is so much variety in the products within this dermal filler family, you can address most of the common signs of aging in just a single appointment. We will meet with you to discuss your goals and evaluate your skin, and we can tell you which of the products in this line will best help you meet your goals. Here are just a few of the things that dermal fillers can correct:

Wrinkles

Everyone is different, so everyone begins showing those first signs of wrinkles and folds at different ages. They can develop as early as the mid 20s or as late as the late 30s. But whenever yours start to show, as the skin ages the issue will only get worse. The dermal fillers can smooth out these wrinkles, improving the texture of your skin along the way.

Fine Lines

fine lines tend to appear in the most delicate skin, such as that around our eyes, as well as in the skin around the mouth and across the forehead. These lines are thinner than genuine wrinkles, but they can become very noticeable over time, especially as you collect more of them. A dermal filler can erase these lines by plumping the skin so it’s tighter, creating a smooth and soft appearance.

Sagging Skin

As our bodies start producing less collagen with age, the framework that gives our skin its strong structure begins to break down. This is a perfectly normal effect of the aging process and happens to everyone, but you don’t have to live with loose and sagging skin. Derma fillers can create volume and restore a younger appearance while helping you achieve better firmness to your skin.

Thin Lips

It is also perfectly natural for the lips to thin with age. This loss of volume can also be accompanied by smokers’ lines or lipstick lines, leaving you feeling self-conscious about your lips. Some people are simply born with naturally thin lips in the first place! The great news is that this treatment is perfect for you; whether your lips are thinning with age or it’s a problem you’ve always lived with.

You can have volume restored and see the lines around your lips erased with just a single treatment. If you have naturally thin lips, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much fuller and plumper your lips can be. Best of all, the texture is completely natural and soft because the plumping is being done by your own body. The filler simply gets that process going.

Lack of Volume

Another problem of aging is a lack of volume, particularly in the cheeks and mid-face. We associate plump cheeks with youthfulness, so hollow areas make us look older. Juvéderm offers one of the best, and only, products available to specifically address volume issues in the midface and cheeks.

How Long Do Results Last?

The longevity of your results will depend on a couple of factors, including exactly which areas you’re having treatment in and which of the products in the line you are using. There are also some lifestyle factors that can affect things. Harmful exposure to the sun or other UV rays can cause your dermal filler results to fade more quickly. Excessive alcohol intake and a poor diet can also shorten your results. Perhaps worst of all, smoking will undo everything you’re trying to do in rejuvenating your face. If you ever needed an incentive to stop smoking, this is it!

All that said, if you follow instructions, you can expect to see results last from about 12 to 18 months. Most people schedule a touch-up treatment as soon as they notice the signs of aging returning; however, once you know about how long the results will last for you, you can schedule your touch-ups preemptively, so your results remain seamless.

Am I a Good Candidate?

These fillers are safe and effective for nearly everyone over the age of 18. Anyone who is concerned about wrinkles, lines, skin laxity, thinning and hollow areas is likely eligible for this treatment. Good candidates are in overall good health, have realistic expectations about what the treatment can do, and do not have any skin infections in the treatment area at the time of treatment. Additionally, it’s important that you not be allergic to anything in this product, particularly lidocaine.

Most people tend to seek treatment after age 35, but this is also a great treatment for younger people in order to put off signs of aging for a longer period. If you have very severe signs of aging, this might not be the best treatment for you. If you want to correct certain types of wrinkles known as dynamic wrinkles, you might do better with a product like Botox. We will go over all the options with you when you come for a consultation.
