Vaser Liposuction

Do you have stubborn areas of the body that won’t shape up no matter how much you diet and exercise? Vaser liposuction can melt away your problem spots, giving you a sleek, shapely figure you can be proud of. Patients at Zormeier Cosmetic Surgery & Longevity Center, with locations in Noblesville, IN, Shelbyville, IN, Danville, IL, Healdsburg, CA, and Ukiah, CA, love the great results they’ve gotten with this advanced form of liposuction.

What Is Vaser Liposuction?

Vaser Liposuction is similar to traditional lipo, but it’s gentler on the body and offers better results. This treatment relies on ultrasound energy that helps break up fatty tissues, making them easy to siphon out of the body. It can be used to tackle problem spots all over your figure.

The ultrasound technology behind Vaser allows us to precisely and naturally sculpt the body. The energy associated with this treatment also tightens up the skin. This treatment won’t damage the nerves, blood vessels, and tissues in the area, and because the incisions are tiny and the tube used to siphon out the fat is small, the recovery time associated with this type of liposuction minimal.

How Does It Work?

During a Vaser liposuction treatment, the part of the body that is being targeted is filled with a saline solution that both numbs the area and causes the fat cells to expand, making them easier to remove. Next, an ultrasound probe is passed under the skin through a small incision. Without hurting the surrounding healthy tissue, the ultrasound energy helps separate fat cells from the muscle.

Those cells, and most of the saline solution, are then siphoned out through a small tube known as a cannula. This treatment is performed under anesthesia.

What Type of Recovery Is Involved?

Vaser is done on an outpatient basis, which means you’ll be able to head home after your treatment. Patients usually spend the rest of the day resting and begin to get back on their feet after several days. During your initial recovery, you’ll want to drink plenty of fluids to help flush away the anesthesia.

You also may be asked to wear a snug-fitting compression garment over the treatment area. This garment will help the skin conform to the new shape of the body and facilitate your recovery. We may also ask you to refrain from vigorous exercise for a couple of weeks.

How Soon Will I See Results?

Your body will need a period of time to recover and heal. Most patients start to see improvement in about six weeks, with their full results developing in three to 12 months.

What Specific Parts of the Body Can Vaser Liposuction Be Performed On?

Vaser is frequently performed on the arms, chest, stomach, hips, thighs, buttocks, and upper back. It can even be used on the chin and neck.

How Is This Different From Traditional or Laser Lipo?

For years, traditional liposuction was the gold standard for fat removal. Laser and Vaser lipo are two newer versions that incorporate different forms of energy to loosen and remove fat, making the treatment easier on the body and resulting in more refined results.

Traditional Lipo

During traditional lipo, a cannula is used to physically manipulate and loosen fat before suctioning it out of the body. An incision is made to allow the cannula to reach into the area of unwanted fat.

The physicality of this treatment, and the fact that the cannula and incisions are larger than what is used for Laser or Vaser treatments, mean that traditional lipo is a more invasive option with a longer period of recovery.

Laser Lipo

Laser Lipo, which is also referred to as Smart Lipo, operates much like traditional liposuction, but the cannula used is smaller and is equipped with a laser tip. As the cannula gently sweeps beneath the skin in the treatment area, the laser heat liquefied fat cells, making them easy to siphon out.

The heat associated with the laser also stimulates collagen production, which leaves the skin in the target area tighter and smoother.

The smaller cannula that is used, the fact that incisions can be smaller, and the comparable ease in removing fat cells that have been liquified make this an easier treatment for patients than traditional lipo.

What Advantages Are Associated With Vaser Treatments?

Permanent Results

One of the key advantages of this treatment is that it permanently removes targeted fat cells from the body. That means you won’t have to return for touch-up sessions. The one thing you’ll want to do to preserve your results is to maintain a healthy lifestyle and a healthy weight.

It Can Be Used to Contour Small Areas

The precision this treatment offers means that Vaser can be used to effectively sculpt small, tight areas of the body like the neck and arms. You also won’t have to worry about any sort of demarcation between the treated part of the body and the untreated, something that occasionally occurs with traditional liposuction.

It Will Improves Your Figure

This treatment won’t remove a large amount of fat, but it will still dramatically improve the look of your silhouette. Unlike traditional weight loss plans, which don’t allow you to control where the pounds come off, Vaser can help you get rid of the problem spots you’ve struggled with while keeping the curves you love.

Once you’ve had this treatment, your body will appear slimmer, more defined, and more toned. You’ll also feel great about yourself.

A Convenient Treatment

Vaser treatments are a convenient option for working professionals and others who can’t set aside a lot of time for recovery. You’ll be able to head home right after your treatment, and although you’ll want to plan on resting for a day or so, you’ll be back on your feet in no time.

If you aren’t interested in an invasive treatment and the recovery time it requires, Vaser is an excellent option.

It Won’t Leave Excess Skin Behind

There’s nothing more frustrating than finally shedding the fat you’ve been trying to get rid of, only to be left with loose, excess skin. Fortunately, that won’t happen with this treatment.

The energy associated with the ultrasound technology will subtly tighten and smooth the skin in the target area, helping it retract and conform to the new body shape.

Am I a Candidate for Vaser Liposuction?

The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate for this treatment is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Michele Zormeier, our owner and physician. Dr. Zormeier has more than 20 years of surgical experience and is double-board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Anti-Aging.

During your consultation, Dr. Zormeier will review your medical history, evaluate your area of concern, and talk with you about your cosmetic goals. She’ll determine if this is the right treatment for you. There are several early signs that you may be an especially good candidate.

You’re Close to Your Goal Weight

This treatment is ideal for patients who are already in pretty good shape but who need extra help with a problem spot or two that have not responded to healthy habits. Patients are ideally no more than 30 percent overweight.

You’re in Relatively Good Health

The best patients are in fairly good health and are able to bounce back after a treatment that involves anesthesia. Individuals with a history of seizures or bleeding disorders may not be candidates for this type of liposuction. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding also are not candidates. It also helps if you don’t smoke, as smoking hinders blood flow and can slow your recovery.

You Can Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

This treatment offers patients amazing results, but the one thing it won’t do is prevent you from gaining weight in the future. The best patients are committed to a healthy lifestyle that will help preserve their results long term.

You Have a Healthy Outlook

It also helps if patients who undertake this treatment are emotionally stable, fully understand the treatment, and are realistic about the outcome it offers.

Your Skin Still Has Elasticity

One of the benefits of this treatment is that it subtly tightens skin in the treatment area. But the best patients still have a fair amount of elasticity in their skin, which ensures that their skin is able to bounce back after treatment and acclimate to the body’s new shape.

We can assess your skin’s elasticity during your initial consultation. Patients should have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone.

Vaser Q&A

Will This Help Me Lose Weight?

This treatment will improve the appearance of your silhouette, but it won’t help you lose a lot of weight. You may drop a couple of pounds as a result of this treatment, but not much more.

The real secret to this treatment is not that it moves the needle on your scale but that it gets rid of a problem spot or two and improves the overall contour of your body. If shedding pounds is your primary goal, you may be better served by a traditional weight loss plan.

Does This Treatment Work for Men As Well as Women?

Yes. Patients of both genders routinely seek out Vaser treatments to improve their silhouette.

Will This Type of Liposuction Help With Cellulite?

Vaser can help improve the look of cellulite, but it won’t resolve it altogether. Vaser is especially effective on the deeper layers of fat that are hard or fibrous. It does not work as well on the gel-like fat in the upper layers of the skin that contribute to the appearance of cellulite.

If cellulite is your primary concern, we may recommend Cellutone, an FDA-approved cellulite treatment that our practice offers.

What Does VASER Stand For?

VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance, a special ultrasound technology that breaks down fat cells with ultrasonic frequency waves.

Can I Have Multiple Areas Treated at Once?

Yes, this treatment allows you to target multiple areas at the same time.

Will This Treatment Get Rid of Visceral Fat?

This treatment does not target visceral fat, which is the fat that surrounds internal organs like the pancreas and liver. Visceral fat is the fat that is tied to health problems like type 2 diabetes.

Liposuction, including Vaser treatments, hones in on subcutaneous fat, which is the fat just below the skin’s surface. Although generally harmless, subcutaneous fat can influence your shape and silhouette, making it a common target of fat-removal treatments.

Is This Treatment Safe?

Yes. This advanced treatment was approved by the FDA in 2010. It has been safely and widely used on patients ever since.

Will This Treatment Work on All Skin Types and Tones?

Assuming you are in good overall physical health, this treatment is effective on all skin types and tones.
